Portuguese Tobacco Handkerchief

Traditionally used by Portuguese farmers wrapped around their necks before heading out to the field for another day's work under the blazing sun: the tip backwards, the knot forwards. 

The square scarf was available in different colors but became popular in red because it is a colour that goes well with everything and has the advantage of always adding a touch of youthfulness. Slowly, the kerchief also became part of (and is still to this day) the costume of several folklore groups.

We love wearing ours as a neck scarf, a head band or hair accessory, it also looks great tied around a straw basket bag.
